Meet the founder & creator of LilyPond Vintage Shirley Whiteway-Matheson
Hello!
My name is Shirley. I am the founder of the small business LilyPond Vintage located in Elmsdale, Nova Scotia. I am a lover of everything old, chippy and vintage. I am passionate about interior design, vintage home decor, antiques and painting furniture. I have been refinishing furniture and decorating on a budget for over 20+ years. What started out as a hobby grew into a small home base business in 2015 then later opened my retail shop LilyPond Vintage in 2017.
I come from a large family of artisans, my papa was a cobbler and my gram was a painter. When I was young, my dad taught me how to paint and make household repairs. I would spend hours with my dad and handed him tools as he needed them from his tool box. He could build anything, I always admired how there was nothing he couldn’t do.
I have always had a love and appreciation for vintage homes and antiques. One of my first purchased homes was built in the 1860’s; it needed many repairs and slowly my husband and I worked restoring the home. My early years helping my dad put my useful skills to work. He instilled in me the importance of work ethic and the tenacity to follow through on what you start.
As a small business owner I am dedicated to our customers and clients. I believe in putting quality first and work to continuously improve products and customer service. I get the greatest satisfaction when I am able to teach someone how to select paint and finish their first furniture project.
